Drilling for oil in Alaska?

Why has this not been discussed more? To me, we could use our own oil for the next 5-10 years and at that point be in place to use other alternative fuels for our needs.

but we have caved in to the environmental lunatics who are more concerned with the mating habits and habitats of walruses and polar [censored] bears

its obvious that seals and penguins and whatever the [censored] else lives up there is more important to these losers than the the fact that drilling there will save everybody a boatload of money

How much is up there? Could we use that for 5-10 years? If so wouldn't that be enough time to develop and get everyone switched over to alternative fuels? Or at least drastically reduce our dependence upon oil?

How close is the pipeline to capicity? It is already 10 past it's expected life. Wanna build a new one? Sure , this sounds good but it was years before the first drop ever came out of the first and I don't think they are running it half full. There is as much oil in the west as Alaska. The Alaskan field is on Prudhoe Bay -top of the world.

They need to get that rolling. For a nation with our technology and resources it's ridiculous to be in the situation we are currently in.

The environmentalists that are fighting against the drilling in Alaska are hypocrites. Only a person that is 100% completely free of petroleum product use should be able say they are against oil/petroleum product production.

We use it - we need it - drill for it.

this isnt about the pipeline its about drilling ANWR, specifically the "1002 area"

there are estimates of anywhere from 4.5 to as much as 16 billions barrels of oil

ANWR is just east of prudhoe bay on the north slope which is our largest oil field

we use approx 20m bpd in this country

so on the low end it would fully supply our daily usage for about 12 years.......if it was the higher end of the estimate we could be fully supplied for 32 years just off this area alone

add in the other areas we get domestic supply from (prudhoe bay, the gulf, etc) we could fully meet our daily demand without any foreign assistance for a period of 15 to about 35 years

if we were to drop the idea of giving a [censored] about the mating habits of dolphins and drill off the coast of florida.......we could stretch that much further as there are estimates of 12-20 billion barrels to be found there as well
